“BioCryst is exiting internal discovery work and will close its Birmingham, Alabama site by the end of 2026. The company said it will now prioritize external innovation over its own discovery programs. A spokesperson declined to say how many jobs the shutdown will affect.
The spokesperson told BioSpace on June 29 that the company is committed to supporting affected employees through the transition, and that commercial and clinical programs continue as planned.
The site is BioCryst’s Discovery Center of Excellence. The move comes about a month after the company dropped avoralstat, its diabetic macular edema candidate in Phase 1b testing, to concentrate on its rare disease pipeline.”
