In May 2025, the United States government issued an executive order directing the HHS to facilitate direct-to-consumer purchasing programs for prescription drug manufacturers that sell their products to American patients at the most-favored-nation price and to communicate most-favored-nation price targets to manufacturers and propose a rulemaking plan to impose most-favored-nation pricing if “significant progress” is not made towards achieving such pricing.
